    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs, once again, wasted many scoring chances before eventually playing to a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu at the FNB Stadium.

For the second time in a row, in the Premier Soccer League, Amakhosi missed a penalty as Glody Lilepo's effort was saved.

Pule Mmodi thought he had scored the club's second goal, only for him to be denied by teammate Khanyisa Mayo's offside touch.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Prior to the game against Usuthu, Gaston Sirino missed another spot kick in the Premier Soccer League, against Marumo Gallants.

On Wednesday, it beats logic why Mayo decided to touch a goal-bound effort from his teammate, which turned out to be a massive blunder as the Glamour Boys are now winless in four PSL outings.

Club's assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef was left impressed with the way the Glamour Boys played.

The tactician has defended Lilepo and Sirino before reacting to Mayo's incident.

  • WHAT BEN YOUSSEF SAID

“Lilepo last season scored three penalties, Sirino last season in the final of the Nedbank Cup scored a penalty,” he said in his post-match interview.
“You know, penalties are a 50 percent chance, and you also have to say congratulations to the keeper for saving [it]; we have to continue to work.

"We have nothing to say now, but the opportunity to continue to work," Ben Youssef continued.
“I think I have to say I’m so happy about the performance of the players. I think after a lot of games, we play every two games with the same squad. [On Wednesday], everyone saw the game, how many scoring chances we created.
“The man of the match was the keeper of AmaZulu, so it [says]everything about the game. I said it before the game that we’re struggling in the last third.

"Sometimes we’re unlucky, [but] we have to work in, we have to keep going and find a solution in the last third.
“It’s very tough for the players, mentally, when you have a penalty and miss a penalty, but we continue to fight, we score the goal by Shabalala.

"Then we get another opportunity, we score, it would’ve been a goal [but] Mayo touched the ball in offside," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

On Sunday, Chiefs play Stelelnbosch in the Carling Knockout's Round of 16, hoping to advance to the quarter-final.

Amakhosi have beaten Stellies four times since last season across all competitions, meaning they will find it tough breaking Steve Barker's men for the fifth consecutive time.

However, the fans want results, and after the recent showing, the players have no option but to deliver.
