    WHAT HAPPENED?

Jose Riveiro led Al Ahly to a 0-0 draw with Inter Miami at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup in his first official match in charge of the Cairo giants.

The Spaniard recently joined Al Ahly, and Percy Tau, speaking from his experience in Egypt, has warned the coach about the demanding job he is in.

    WHAT TAU SAID

"It's going to require a lot from him, where he's going is very different to South Africa. It's a club with so many fans and passion, they really love the club so much and he has to win every competition that he participates in," Tau said as per Soccer Laduma.

"But they've also given him the resources, they've signed him a lot of good players, so that would help but he has to do better than the previous coach, [Marcel] Koller, he won 11 trophies with me. He [Riveiro] has to do better than that," added the former Mamelodi Sundowns star.

"What he has done with Pirates it does say he's a good coach, he knows what he's doing. I think he can do well but it's going to require a lot. At Al Ahly it's not only the games he has to deal with..."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The draw against Inter Miami could be an impressive start for Riveiro, considering his team was facing global superstars like Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.

That gives hope that Riveiro has a squad that can compete on the global stage and that might translate to success in Africa.

Making the Spaniard's job tough is that he is expected to conquer Africa, something he struggled to do with Pirates and achieved by his predecessor Marcel Koller.

    WHAT NEXT FOR AL AHLY?

Up next for Al Ahly is a clash with Brazilian side Palmeiras on Thursday before they conclude their Group A campaign by facing FC Porto on June 24.

They would be hoping the performance against Inter Miami will inspire them to reach the knockout stage.
