    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs have recently been struggling to have a reliable goalkeeper to help them win matches and meet their objectives.

The most used custodians, currently, are Brandon Petersen, Fiacre Ntwari, and Bruce Bvuma.

All three keepers failed to deliver as anticipated in the 2024/25 campaign.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rwanda international Ntwari was signed to replace Itumeleng Khune but didn't deliver as anticipated, paving the way for Bvuma.

The 2024/25 season ended with Petersen taking over from the latter, and he ended up helping the Glamour Boys end the trophy drought by inspiring them to the Nedbank Cup crown.

It seems Petersen is the one guaranteed to start as Amakhosi's first choice, once the Soweto giants resume their competitive assignments this month.

Chiefs are making a mistake by not signing a reliable goalkeeper, according to legend Mlungisi 'Professor' Ngubane.

    WHAT NGUBANE SAID

"Kaizer Chiefs has not changed at all. If they continue to rely on the two goalkeepers, Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen, then nothing has truly improved," he told  KickOff.

"It's crucial for Kaizer Chiefs to acquire a new goalkeeper. On Saturday, they managed to keep a clean sheet because they were up against a team that struggles to score goals.

"Since it is still pre-season, Chiefs have time to find a good goalkeeper. A solid goalkeeper instills confidence in the defenders," Ngubane concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

This will be a massive season for Amakhosi, who hope to deliver domestically and on the continent, where they will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The goalkeepers have a huge task to prove their doubters wrong by helping Amakhosi hit its greatest heights in the new campaign.
