    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs are one of the biggest clubs, not only in Mzansi but in Africa at large.

They have an estimated 16 million fans in the country, and many more outside the country.

Despite their numbers and rich history, they have struggled to win silverware.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coach Nasreddine Nabi was appointed at the beginning of the season to help end the decade-long trophy drought.

He eventually managed to do so by winning the Nedbank Cup recently after beating old rivals Orlando Pirates in the final.

They are still struggling to finish in the Premier Soccer League's top eight.

Versatile defender Edmilson insists that it should not be the case, and admits they have let Amakhosi down.

  • Edmilson Dove, Kaizer Chiefs

    WHAT DOVE SAID

"[Kaizer Chiefs] are one of the biggest teams in Africa. When you come here, you come here to win titles and not to build or not find yourself in the position where we find ourselves in now," he told the media.

"In my particular opinion, I think at some point we have failed the club. That is why we are given chances to fight with each and every opportunity, and at this point in time, we can’t dwell on the past.

"Yes, obviously we could have had a better season and done better, and that is the sentiment amongst the group. We have to look forward and see what is ahead of us," Dove added.

But I think now we just want to focus on what we can do at the moment and that is to qualify for the top eight," the Mozambique international concluded.

  • WHAT NEXT?

Chiefs haven't won any of their last eight Premier Soccer League games, which risks their place in the top eight.

However, a win on Saturday at the FNB Stadium against Polokwane City will ensure they play MTN8 next season.

It will also give the team much-needed confidence ahead of the 2025/26 edition.
