    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City FC CEO John Comitis has vowed to appeal against the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee's decision to just fine Marumo Gallants over the registration of Monde Mpambaniso.

Gallants were fined R200,000, with half of that amount suspended for one year, after the PSL DC found them guilty of improper registration of the player.

Comitis has now vowed to escalate the matter further, as he believes the DC judgement is not fair and that the rules were not followed.

    WHAT COMITIS SAID

"What I can tell you for now is that we will stop at nothing to see the integrity of the PSL Executive whom we voted into office, and the prosecutor follows the rules they themselves put into place," Comitis told Soccer Laduma.

"We are looking for justice to be done in this case. It's not fair that rules and laws can be overlooked like this. The PSL should respect and follow the rules. That's why we are going to the SAFA Arbitration now," he added.

"For now, we don't have the date for the arbitration yet. But today we could get the date, and it could be as early as tomorrow. So, as I have said, we will stop at nothing to have justice done."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This is a case that will have fingers crossed again with the 2025/26 campaign set to begin soon.

The PSL decision to just fine and not deduct points from Gallants evaded a situation where the 2024/25 standings would have been affected.

Points deduction for Bahlabane Ba Ntwa means that Cape Town City will avoid relegation, since they will jump to the 14th position, while the former will go down.

The knock-on effect would also affect Kaizer Chiefs, who finished ninth last season and will now move up to the eighth position, technically making them eligible MTN8 participants.

Comitis' decision to appeal will put the league's managing body in an awkward legal position because that would mean the league could delay until the case is heard and determined.

WHAT NEXT FOR CAPE TOWN CITY?

The wait continues as eyes are now on Comitis and the possible outcome of his appeal.

Gallants' preparation for the new season is also set to be affected, as their focus is scattered; they do not know where their fate will lie.

For Cape Town City, naturally, they would hope to get a favourable judgement that will reinstate their PSL status after suffering relegation through the playoffs last season.
