    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rayners scored the only goal of the game, but his other two efforts were ruled out owing to a handball and an offside, respectively.

Masandawana dominated proceedings, with players underlining their quality in the biggest stage at the club level.

The Bafana Bafana international was happy with the support every player received on the pitch, insisting the South African outfit can make the knockout phase.

    WHAT RAYNERS SAID

“It always feels good to score goals, and I just need to keep on pushing, focus on the next two games, and that’s what matters," he told the media.

"Every game will be special for us, we are playing against big teams in this tournament, and I’m happy for my teammates for the fight and the victory.

“Yes, I believe we will [reach second phase], and for us as a team, we just need to take it one game at a time.

"We need to focus on the next one and whatever happens in the next one happens, but I think we can go through and we just need to keep on helping each other fighting and that’s all," Rayners concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Sundowns' resolve will be tested on Saturday when they play the Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in a vital game that might shape their future in the competition.
