    WHAT HAPPENED?

Despite ending the 2024/25 Premier Soccer League campaign in the ninth position on the log, Amakhosi ended the season with a trophy.

The Glamour Boys beat traditional rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the Nedbank Cup final to end their decade-long trophyless run.

It contributed to the management's decision to keep coach Nasreddine Nabi.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This season, Amakhosi have started the season well, winning their opening two Premier Soccer League matches to go top of the table.

Orlando Pirates have no points from the two outings, while Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending champions, have collected four.

The fans are optimistic Amakhosi will win another silverware, but captain Inacio Miguel is treading carefully. He doesn't want to promise the supporters what the team can't deliver.

He has further explained why Chiefs should focus on their games as opposed to tracking the performances of their rivals.

    WHAT MIGUEL SAID

“We’re not focused on the other teams, you know we are focusing on ourselves and our job what we can do better,” the Angola international told the media.
“I think we have nothing to do with the other team’s results If we don’t focus on ourselves, we can do nothing different from the last season.

"So personally, I don’t care about the other teams’ results; I care about my team. I care about the way that we work and the way that we win that game. That’s the most important for us, focusing on ourselves," Miguel added.

    AND WHAT IS MORE

The 29-year-old further explained why he doesn't want to over-promise the fans.

“I think the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, more than anything, deserve the truth,” Miguel continued.

“They deserve us to be honest. I’m very honest with myself. I have a lot of people that on the streets and tell me, Miguel, this season we’ll lift another trophy.

"Listen, I think the most important thing is that they have to understand that we have to go game by game. We can’t create expectations, because then from the expectation it will come the disappointment, I don’t want disappointments on the fans.

“So, what I can promise to the fans is nothing but hard work, every game, every training. We will be there, and we’ll try to do our best to bring the trophies that they want.

"But don’t ask me for trophies, ask me to win games, ask me to go game by game. If we win game by game, we will probably achieve our goals. It will be easy, but as I said, I don’t want to disappoint them," he concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Amakhosi have a chance of collecting their third win in a row on Tuesday when they host Richards Bay.

The win will be massive for the players and the technical team at large, who need to get their confidence high in their bid to deliver domestically and in the CAF Confederation Cup.
