Hugo Broos insists 'we also have injuries' as AFCON title-winning coach reacts to Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen's absence ahead of Bafana Bafana and Super Eagles showdown in crunch World Cup Qualifier

Following a heavy challenge from Rwanda’s Claude Niyomugabo, Nigeria will be without star striker Victor Osimhen, ruling him out of their crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa. 

Ahead of the match, Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos addressed Osimhen’s absence and whether it could provide an advantage for his side.  

“We also have injuries and I think Osimhen is a very good striker,” said Broos during the pre-match press conference in Bloemfontein.

“But I think the coach has lots of options to replace him,” he concluded. 

South Africa currently enjoy a comfortable six-point cushion over Nigeria at the top of Group C.  

Bafana Bafana have accumulated 16 points from seven matches, while the Super Eagles sit in third place with 10 points from the same number of games.

The two nations will go head-to-head at Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein on Tuesday, 9 September, in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.  

The crowd will be eagerly anticipating an entertaining clash, as both sides will be determined to secure maximum points and strengthen their position in the group.
