    THE BIGGER PICTURE

A point might be enough for Bafana Bafana to seal their place in 2025 Afcon if Congo Brazzaville drop points in any of their remaining matches.

As a matter of fact, if the latter draws any of their two games against South Sudan and Uganda respectively, Bafana can afford to lose the fixtures but still beat the Congolese to a slot in Morocco thanks to a good head-to-head record.

Uganda are on 10 points, two more than Bafana Bafana while Congo have four. South Sudan are winless in the pool and have no points.

It explains why Hugo Broos has confidently stated that he will resign if his team fails to qualify.

    WHAT BROOS SAID

"It would be a little shame if we don’t qualify for [2025] Afcon. Honestly, we have the quality, we are bronze medalists," he told the media.

"Can you imagine that the bronze medal of nine months ago can’t even qualify for the next Afcon? So, I’m not thinking about that because again, my confidence is big in this team, but we can’t. We can’t accept if we shouldn’t be qualified for Afcon.

"If we lose both games, five minutes after the game I’m on the flight to Belgium. You can be sure of it," Broos continued.

"If we can’t win, okay Uganda [away is tough], but at home against South Sudan, I tell you I’ll immediately take a flight, and you’ll never see me again."

    WHAT NEXT?

Broos needs to use the remaining matches to get his tactics right ahead of the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

The immediate objective will be to beat Uganda and ensure they top Group K ahead of the final qualifier against South Sudan in Mzansi.
