    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The national team head coach has dropped Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma, captain Yusuf Maart, and forward Mduduzi Shabalala, who had been included in the preliminary squad.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates' Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Mohau Nkota, Simphiwe Selepe, and Deano Van Rooyen received maiden call-ups.

Players from Mamelodi Sundowns have not been included in the squad because they still have pending crucial club engagements. The Premier Soccer League champions will tackle Pyramids of Egypt in the Caf Champions League second leg final in Cairo on June 1.

Thereafter, their focus will be the Fifa Club World Cup campaign that will begin on June 14.

Meanwhile, Broos will use these friendlies to sharpen his players ahead of the remaining 2026 World Cup qualifiers that will be played in September and October.

Bafana top their group as they chase a ticket to the global showpiece, hoping to make a return for the first time since they hosted the finals in 2010.

After that, the former African champions will commence the preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) finals that will be played in Morocco in December 2025 and January 2026.
