Stellenbosch FC withstood pressure to beat Zamalek SC 1-0 at Cairo International Stadium on Wednesday to advance to the semi-final of the Caf Confederation Cup.
After a goalless first half, Steve Barker's side scored a late goal that propelled them to the next stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, Zamalek were dominant in the opening minutes, but as the game grew, Stellenbosch started asserting themselves. Ashley Cupido threatened in the 13th minute, but Omar Gaber did well to clear the danger.
The home side, with a crowd behind them and urging them to attack more, came close to breaking the deadlock in the 18th minute, but Fawaaz Basadien was alert to thwart a danger posed by Zamalek's Mostafa Shalaby.
By the time the teams went for the halftime break, Zamalek had four shots on target while Stellies had one, but there was no goal to separate them.
As the second half started, Stellies made two changes, with Genino Palace and Devin Titus withdrawn and their places taken up by Chumani Butsaka and Lesiba Nku.
The visitors were aggressive and could have easily broken the deadlock in the 56th minute, but again, Zamalek's defence stood firm and cleared the danger.
Despite several fouls being committed, there were no yellow cards issued as the game hit the hour mark.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) side finally broke the deadlock in the 79th minute when Nduli found the back of the net. Nku, whose arrival injected more urgency for Stellies, provided the assist.
