    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs youngster Duane Bennett has joined Orlando Pirates.

The South Africa under-20 international was on loan from Chiefs at ABC Motsepe League Gauteng side Wits University in 2024 and his exploits earned him national team call-ups.

Bennett, who was one of Amakhosi's standout performers as they clinched the Engen Champ of Champs in 2022 and Gauteng Development League Cup in 2023, is now a Bucs player.

    WHAT WAS SAID?

GOAL understands that the gifted right-back will turn out for Pirates' junior teams in the Safa Men's Regional League, ABC Motsepe League and DStv Diski Challenge.

"He has already been introduced to his new teammates. His progress will be monitored by first-team coaches," a source told GOAL.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With Chiefs having lost youngsters who go on to excel at other teams in recent years, they would be hoping they did not make a blunder by letting Bennett go.

The likes of TS Galaxy duo of Puso Dithejane and Khulumani Ndamane, as well as Stellenbosch defender Omega Mdaka, did not get a chance to play for the Amakhosi first team but are doing well at their current clubs.

Bennett will now be hoping to shine for Pirates the way promoted players like Siyabonga Ndlozi, Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota have been doing.

    WHAT NEXT FOR BENNETT?

Currently playing for Pirates' juniors, the Wits University student will be hoping to break into the first team soon.

That would be a big move and his chances are enhanced by the fact that Bucs coach Jose Riveiro believes in youngsters.
