    WHAT HAPPENED?

Coach Rhulani Mokwena convinced Thembinkosi Lorch to ditch Orlando Pirates for Mamelodi Sundowns in January 2024.

The 38-year-old tactician felt 'Nyoso' had enough quality to help Masandawana realise their objectives.

However, after Mokwena's exit, Lorch struggled for game time at Sundowns under Manqoba Mngqithi and later Miguel Cardoso.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

When he took over as Wydad Athletic Club coach, Mokwena signed both Cassius Mailula, who was struggling in MLS side Toronto FC, and Lorch on loan.

The duo re-discovered their form and played a massive role in helping the Red Castle finish third in the Botola Pro League after a sixth-place finish in the previous edition.

In the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, both Mailula and Lorch scored despite their team falling in the group stage.

Lorch was key in the three games, underlining his worth for the North African outfit, explaining why top local agent Mike Makaab insists the attacker shouldn't consider coming back to Masandawana.

    WHAT MAKAAB SAID

"I believe Lorch has done incredibly well at Wydad; if I were representing him, I would do everything in my power to make sure that he continues there," he told Gagasi FM.
"Because if he continues, achieving what he has done at Wydad, he's destined for a nice big move.

"He has settled so well at Wydad," Makaab concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Cardoso hasn't said anything regarding Lorch, which is a sign that he might not be willing to work with the 31-year-old in the future.

The former Orlando Pirates attacker should either remain at Wydad or get a team that will guarantee him game time consistently.

With the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations coming, Lorch will want many opportunities to prove to coach Hugo Broos that he has what it takes to deliver for Bafana Bafana.
