    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs assistant head coach Cedric Kaze has warned his players from being distracted by Mamelodi Sundowns' current form ahead of the Premier Soccer League midweek clash.

Chiefs will host Sundowns at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday, enjoying a three-match winning streak, while the latter come to the game after an MTN8 semi-final loss to Orlando Pirates.

Although Downs might seem a wounded giant, Kaze has warned Chiefs from relying on that and wants his players to do what is required of them instead.

    WHAT KAZE SAID

“People may think that [it’s a good time], but in the end you have to do your job; you have to perform well on the field,” Kaze told the media.

“It doesn’t matter the context or the circumstances of the opponent, but you still have to perform well on the field.

“And don't forget you are playing against the last eight-time champions, and I don't think that those kinds of teams are troubled that easily," the Burundian added.

“That’s why we’ve been talking and working for our players to not rely on the outside – not issues because there are no issues – but words that they are hearing from outside."

“We have to perform and be at our best every second and every minute on Wednesday.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Masandawana face Amakhosi at a time their confidence is pricked following a penalty shootout defeat in the MTN8 semi-final. While one could argue this is a perfect time for Chiefs to outclass Sundowns, Kaze warns that it should not be the case at all.

The Tshwane giants have also dropped points in the league following their season-opening draw against AmaZulu. On the other hand, the Glamour Boys have been impressive, winning all three games.

The PSL defending champions have also been dealing with transfer speculation involving their stars, Lucas Ribeiro and Khuliso Mudau. Apart from the two, Kutlwano Lethlaku has also been linked with an exit, with reports indicating European clubs are interested in signing him.

WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS AND SUNDOWNS?

While Amakhosi are looking for their fourth straight win, the Brazilians hope for a victory to ease pressure on themselves.

A win for Chiefs will widen the gap between them, but if Downs win, they will overtake the Soweto giants on the PSL log.
