    WHAT HAPPENED?

In what could be considered good news for Mamelodi Sundowns, Lucas Ribeiro's move to Qatar SC looked to have stalled, making the Brazilian's return to the Premier Soccer League a possibility.

Ribeiro has been missing for Masandawana, who have played two PSL games and are in the semi-finals of the MTN8. His absence has raised eyebrows, with speculation that he was set to leave growing.

    WHAT IS MORE

In what appears to be a U-turn of the events, the Qatar Stars League side has focused on Ribeiro's countryman, Yan Mateus. Mateus, who is playing for Japanese J1 League Yokohama F. Marinos.

Indeed, the Japanese side looks to have surrendered to the fact that their Brazilian attacker could leave and join Qatar SC, according to a recent comment made by its coach, Oshima Hideo.

It is further reported that Ribeiro and Qatar SC had agreed on personal terms before the difficulties with the PSL giants emerged.

  • WHAT HIDEO SAID

"I don't know what will happen in the future, but we really have no choice but to come together as a team and earn points. We were able to practise in a good atmosphere today, and we will all do our best," Hideo said as per Sportsbull.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After performing well in the FIFA Club World Cup, Ribeiro has been linked with several clubs in France, Belgium, and Brazil. However, the Qatar SC's links looked more probable, but given the latest development, that move may not see the light of day.

In his absence, Miguel Cardoso has fallen back on Arthur Sales, who has been quite impressive for the Brazilians as the 2025/26 season gathers speed.

    WHAT NEXT FOR RIBEIRO?

Ribeiro's future will continue to attract speculation until his next destination is confirmed.

His performance, especially in the 2024/25 season, where he won the Golden Boot and was also named the PSL Player of the Season, means he will not fall short of suitors.

However, the possibility of returning to Tshwane is something that Masandawana fans will welcome as their club aims to successfully compete for multiple titles again.
