    WHAT HAPPENED?

Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino has said a Nedbank Cup success with Kaizer Chiefs will be more special than the same previous achievement with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 34-year-old revealed that he told his wife he wants to make history with the Soweto giants, and one way of doing it is by winning the cup.

Apart from hoping to win the cup, Sirino promised to prepare and have a better campaign in the next season than what they have experienced in 2024-25.

    WHAT SIRINO SAID

"Like I said to my wife, it will be different to make history here; it's a different cup. It's a different opportunity for me because, of course, I won the Nedbank Cup already, but this one is special to me," Sirino told reporters.

"So, I want to fight to make history here, and then we need to prepare for next season to do better," he added.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sirino was part of the Sundowns' setup from 2018 to August 2024 before he switched over to Chiefs. He was the cup winner twice with the Tshwane Giants, who lifted the trophy in 2020 and 2022.

At Masandawana, the Uruguayan lifted numerous titles, and in his maiden season with the Glamour Boys, he is in a position to win the cup.

However, Chiefs go into the final as a bruised giant, having lost the league encounter to Orlando Pirates in Saturday's Soweto Derby. Amakhosi's run in the Premier Soccer League does not inspire either, given that they are without a win in seven games.

The final is also an opportunity for Chiefs to end their drought spell that is now a decade long.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SIRINO?

On May 10, the attacking midfielder has a chance of fulfilling his dream of winning a special Nedbank Cup when Amakhosi and the Sea Robbers clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

While Chiefs are hoping to lift the cup and end the season with a trophy, Pirates will be keen to retain it for the third time and equal their own record.
