    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. has demanded a top 8 finish in the Premier Soccer League.

This is expected to put head coach Nasreddine Nabi under renewed pressure, given that the Glamour Boys have struggled in the league.

The administrative official said he understands how difficult Chiefs' remaining games are, but stated they must win them in order to achieve their season's target.

    WHAT MOTAUNG JR SAID

“We need to be [in the top 8],” Motaung Jr said on 5fm, as quoted by IOL.

“We knew our objectives before the season started. We missed out on it last year… We are going to give everything that we can to make sure that we feature in every cup possible next season."

“It’s two tough games – Polokwane City and Sekhukhune, teams that are actually doing well this season. So, it won’t be easy, but from our side it’s a must," he added.

“We need to be in the top 8 and give everything we can to make sure we do that.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After winning the Nedbank Cup, Motaung Jr gave a strong indication that Nabi will be part of Chiefs next season.

The cup success was a significant achievement for Chiefs, given that they dethroned their arch rivals, Orlando Pirates, who were the defending champions. A week before, Bucs had defeated Amakhosi in a PSL Soweto derby.

Although the Nedbank Cup was expected to reduce pressure on Nabi's shoulders, speculation around his future with the club still persists. This is primarily because Amakhosi have struggled in the league and are now fighting for a top eight finish.

The Glamour Boys are ninth and need to climb the PSL ladder in order to qualify for next season’s MTN8 competition.
