    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamelodi Sundowns decided against extending Rivaldo Coetzee and Sipho Mbule's contracts following the conclusion of the domestic season.

Both players' deals with the PSL champions are set to expire at the end of this month and they will officially become free agents from July 1.

    WHAT WAS SAID?

Prosport International CEO Mike Makaab, who serves as Mbule and Coetzee's agent, revealed that both players are now free agents after Sundowns opted not to exercise their option to extend their contracts.

“What I can tell you that there were a number of players that we represent who Sundowns options on, and the majority of those have been exercised,” he said on Gagasi FM.

“However, the players who have not been exercised are Rivaldo Coetzee and Sipho Mbule. As of the first of July both players are free to join a club of their choice.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Mbule's loan deal was terminated by Sekhukhune United early last month due to the 27-year-old midfielder's ill-discipline and he returned to Sundowns.

The Tshwane giants have since opted against keeping the former SuperSport United star, who was suspended by Sundowns in 2023, along with Andile Jali, after they allegedly came to training drunk.

Meanwhile, Coetzee has proved to be an injury-prone player during his time with Sundowns, having played just five PSL league games in the recent season.

The 28-year-old sustained an unfortunate ACL injury in October 2024 after a league clash against Cape Town City and it has proved to be his last competitive game for Masandawana.

    WHAT NEXT?

Mbule and Coetzee will be hoping to find new homes after leaving Sundowns, who are set to compete in the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup in the USA.

Kaizer Chiefs were keen to sign Mbule before he joined Masandawana from SuperSport in 2022 and it remains to be seen whether Amakhosi will renew their interest in the Bethlehem-born player.
