Four Wins In A Row! Red-hot Orlando Pirates edge out Siwelele FC to close gap with Kaizer Chiefs in PSL clash

The Sea Robbers struggled to find a way against Siwelele, but in the end, they managed to score a goal that helped them pick up an away win. As they head back to Soweto happy, their legend will be left with a lot of questions as their team fail to end the poor run.

    Buccaneers edge Siwelele

    Orlando Pirates' winning run in the Premier Soccer League extended to four matches after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Siwelele FC at Toyota Stadium on Tuesday. 

    Oswin Appollis scored the only goal to give Pirates the crucial points while condemning Bucs' legend Lehlohonolo Seema's side to another defeat. 

    Tshegofatso Mabasa first tested Siwelele goalkeeper Ricardo Gross in the 12th minute when he received a cross into the box by Deon Hotto, but his header was rather weak and did not trouble the keeper.

    Pirates survived a 15th-minute scare when Chibuike Ohizu was left almost unmarked, but the Nigerian headed wide to the relief of the Soweto giants.

    Brilliant teamwork that involved Thabiso Lebitso, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Kamogelo Sebelebele was witnessed in the 26th minute, but the hosts regrouped fast and managed to clear the danger in time.

    Mbekezeli Mbokazi made a vital block five minutes into the second half when he denied Gamphani Lungu a chance to break the deadlock.

    After struggling for over one hour, the Sea Robbers finally found the back of the net; Appollis scored in the 80th minute, with Evidence Makgopa providing the assist.

    The win has taken Pirates just a point behind their arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs, who are third with 13 points.

    Siwelele dropped to the 15th position as their struggle in the top flight persisted.

    Makgopa was introduced in the 73rd minute to replace Mabasa, his rival at the club, and he ended up providing the all-important assist that finally broke Siwelele's defensive line.

    Under coach Lehlohonolo Seema, the struggle continues for Siwelele. The club has registered just one win in eight games as they sit in the relegation zone.

    Pirates will shift focus to the CAF Champions League second-leg action of the first preliminary round against Lioli on September 27. 

    Ahead of this game, they carry a huge advantage after winning the first-leg duel by a margin of 3-0.

    For Siwelele, they will face Marumo Gallants on September 28.
