Former Orlando Pirates midfielder praises Bucs’ youngsters under Jose Riveiro and hopes Relebohile Mofokeng secures overseas move — ‘I’m praying and rooting for him to go abroad’

Mpho Makola has lauded Orlando Pirates for their impressive form under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro. He believes Riveiro leaves behind a solid foundation that will benefit the club for years to come. Makola praised the coach's structure, discipline, and ability to unlock the potential of young players.

He highlighted how the senior players have played a crucial role in guiding and mentoring the youngsters. He said it’s now up to the next generation to write their own history at the club. He expressed great hope in seeing more players graduate from the development ranks into the senior team.

In particular, he singled out Relebohile Mofokeng for praise, urging him to challenge himself abroad. He believes Mofokeng has the talent to succeed overseas and carry the South African flag with pride.

“Yeah, I think he’s going to do well,” said Makola as reported by iDiski Times.

“He’s doing really, really well for his age, and I’m just praying and hoping and rooting for him to actually go overseas.

“I think these boys are really responding well,” added Makola.

“I’m actually happy with the response that they are giving to this whole new chapter in their life. They’ve looked really positive, lively. I saw the centre-back [Mbekezeli Mbokazi] also playing. He looked good. He looked solid, and he looked comfortable. He looks like he’s a Pirates defender.

“Even [Thabiso] Sesane, he’s been doing well. So even Mohau [Nkota], [Boitumelo] Radiopane, also, whenever he’s given a chance, he does well. So I’m happy with these youngsters.

“I think they’ve got some good leadership around them with the rest of the guys like Miguel [Timm] and the older generation of players. So I think they are really doing well.”

Mofokeng is rapidly becoming a front-runner for the Player of the Season award. Many believe he can surpass Lucas Ribeiro, who has also had an outstanding campaign. Mofokeng’s performances have been game-changing, especially in high-stakes matches.

The Sebokeng-born attacker scored a crucial goal in the MTN8 final and found the net again in the Soweto Derby. His maturity and flair at such a young age make him a standout in the league.

Orlando Pirates now turn their focus to their remaining five league matches. They are chasing Mamelodi Sundowns, hoping the Brazilians slip up in the title race. Every game from now is a must-win if they are to mount a serious challenge. The Buccaneers also have an eye on strengthening the squad during the off-season.
