Former Orlando Pirates attacker Thembinkosi Lorch set to leave Mamelodi Sundowns on permanent deal as Maghreb club reach agreement with PSL champions

Coach Rhulani Mokwena signed Thembinkosi Lorch from Orlando Pirates in the 2023/24 mid-season transfer window.

He brought the versatile attacker to Masandawana in his bid to strengthen the attacking department and add depth to his squad.

However, the 32-year-old was sidelined by the subsequent coaches, Manqoba Mngqithi and Miguel Cardoso, who felt he was surplus to requirements.    

Mokwena and Lorch were reunited at Wydad Athletic Club in the 2024/25 season, and Lorch proved his doubters wrong with quality displays.

Despite joining in the mid-season, Lorch played 17 games across all competitions with three goals to his name. His massive showing was at the 2025 Club World Cup.   

The Botola Pro League wanted to make his move permanent, but were almost put off by a reported $1 million value by Masandawana.

Nevertheless, recent reports indicate that it has been solved, and 'Nyoso' is on his way out.

Lorch will join Wydad Athletic Club on a two-year deal. 

Wydad Casablanca are set to play in the Caf Confederation Cup after finishing third in last season's Botola Pro League log.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are set for September, while the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will be played in December in Morocco.

It is interesting to see whether Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos will give him a chance.
