    WHAT HAPPENED?

In the absence of the injured Rushwin Dortley, Aden McCarthy has stepped up and taken his chance at Kaizer Chiefs.

He has put up a decent shift alongside Inacio Miguel at the heart of Amakhosi's defense, ensuring the team has kept back-to-back cleansheets in the two games played so far.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The son of former Mamelodi Sundowns star Fabian McCarthy played a massive role in the two wins and has won two Man of the Match Awards.

His exploits mean it will be tough for Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos to overlook him in future international assignments.

Amakhosi assistant coach Cedric Kaze has now jokingly stated McCarthy will think the MOTM Awards belong to him.

    WHAT KAZE SAID

“I would say that the one who is handing the Man of the Match is making our life very difficult because he’s going to think he’s entitled to get the Man of the Match every match now,” he said in his post-match presser.

“But it’s good for him; he’s a very, very nice kid. Very professional in the way he conducts himself, inside the field and outside.

"Especially another thing I can say about him, he is a player who listens a lot.

“He’s always with Zitha and Miguel, the type of players he knows their experience can help him. I’m sure, without injuries, he will go far; he is a player with quality," Kaze concluded.

Depth will be very important for the Soweto giants, who will also be playing in the CAF Confederation Cup, but all those given a chance must deliver effectively.

This welcomes stiff competition, meaning no player is guaranteed a starting berth if he doesn't deliver on the pitch.
