    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi could soon be lost to South African football, according to his agent, Mike Makaab.

The 53-year-old has been without a club since departing Chloorkop, where he spent over a decade and won numerous trophies.

Reports from Soccer Laduma suggest there is strong interest in him from North African and Middle Eastern clubs.

Mngqithi could follow in the footsteps of Pitso Mosimane and Rhulani Mokwena, who have both ventured abroad.

His next move could be a defining moment in his coaching career.

    WHAT MAKAAB SAID

"We've had quite a lot of interest from clubs in North Africa and the Middle East. We are biding our time purely because it's the project that's important. If he commits to a club, it's got to be a project that he can get stuck into," Makaab said as reported by Soccer Laduma.

"He was at Sundowns for 11 years and during that period there was a lot of interest in him. The bottom line is that he was happy with the project, whether he was head coach or assistant coach. That's the character we are talking about."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With more South African coaches making a name for themselves internationally, Mngqithi also has the opportunity to prove his tactical abilities outside the country.

The demand for experienced and title-winning coaches in North Africa and the Middle East continues to grow.

If he takes up an overseas offer, he could elevate his status among Africa’s elite tacticians.

His experience at Sundowns, where he won multiple trophies, makes him an attractive prospect.

A move abroad would test his adaptability in a new football environment.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

After suffering their second league defeat, Sundowns will shift their attention to the Nedbank Cup.

They are set to host Safa League side Mpheni Defenders in the last 16.

This match provides an opportunity for Masandawana to secure silverware despite their recent setback.

Sundowns will be expected to dominate against the lower-tier opposition.

A strong performance could restore confidence as they continue to chase multiple trophies this season.
