    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Morgan Gould has tipped Aden McCarthy to develop into a top player as the Amakhosi star enjoys brilliant moments with the Premier Soccer League side.

Gould argues that fans have yet to get a taste of what McCarthy can actually do, as he expects more from the emerging defender, whom he says has the potential to become one of the greats.

    WHAT GOULD SAID

“Aden McCarthy is the epitome of patience; delay is not denial. He has been patient and waiting for his opportunity,” Gould told FARPost.

“He's yet to unleash the Aden that we'll all love watching, and I just give his parents credit because he comes from a footballing background and was born out of Chiefs," he added. `

    WHAT IS MORE

Gould has credited McCarthy's growth to his parents for sticking with him even when his career faced headwinds.

“Everyone in the family stuck with him when people were saying Aden must go, and the patience is paying off. He is a player of note; not only is he the son of Fabian McCarthy, but he is a great player in his own right," Gould added.

“I’m impressed with how he’s taking the pressure of playing for Kaizer Chiefs; all eyes are on him, but he’s a humble human being.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

McCarthy, 21, has quickly developed into a first-team player for Chiefs; the son of the Amakhosi legend featured against Stellenbosch and Polokwane City and won the Man of the Match awards.

His partnership with captain Inacio Miguel is showing signs of developing into a solid one at the heart of Chiefs' defence.

The defender captained Chiefs' Diski Challenge last season as they claimed the title, and this catapulted him into the first team.

    WHAT NEXT FOR MCCARTHY?

As his star keeps on shining, the challenge is now to keep his top form, as Chiefs would need that this season.

After two wins in a row, Amakhosi cast their focus on the next game, against Richards Bay on August 19, where their fans expect them to win again and maintain the momentum.
