    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates were knocked out of the Caf Champions League semi-finals by Pyramids, suffering their first defeat of the tournament. Despite the setback, Mohau Nkota’s contributions stood out, having scored four goals throughout the campaign.

The 20-year-old has proven himself as a valuable asset, and Kaizer Chiefs legend Junior Khanye highlighted his exceptional impact, comparing him favourably to Monnapule Saleng.

According to Khanye, Nkota is currently the better player, showing more potential and consistency in his performances.

The young forward’s rise has shown that Pirates have solid talent in their ranks, despite their continental heartbreak. His future looks promising, and he is poised for even greater success moving forward.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

“This is Nkota’s first season and I have to humble myself when it comes to the boy,” said Khanye as reported by iDiski Times.

“The thing is I was there when he was dropping [in form] but he has redeemed himself hence the compliment. The boy has something special. He is technically good, he has improved his game, he is consistent and gives the coach a head ache”.

“When you compare him to Monnapule Saleng for me the boy is better. I know that Monnapule Saleng is a better player in terms of experience and he has done well for his career. But this boy has a bright future ahead of him. Well done to Mofokeng and this boy.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Under the guidance of Jose Riviero, Pirates have embraced their youth development system, giving opportunities to young players like Relebohile Mofokeng, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, and Mohau Nkota.

Riviero’s approach has created a platform for these talented players to shine in the senior team.

His departure may mark the end of an era, but he has laid the groundwork for the next coach to continue promoting young players.

Pirates now have a strong foundation of young talent that has set the league alight, showing that the future of the club is in good hands.

The combination of experienced players and emerging talents bodes well for the club’s future, both domestically and on the continental stage.

    WHAT NEXT FOR PIRATES?

With their Caf Champions League run now over, Pirates must now focus on domestic matters.

Their immediate goal is to close the gap in the league standings and challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the title.

Pirates will need to step up their performance in the remaining league matches to secure a top finish.

They face Sekhukhune United first, followed by a high-stakes derby against Kaizer Chiefs.

The club will also be preparing for the upcoming Nedbank Cup final, hoping to add more silverware to their collection.

Their domestic challenges now take center stage as they look to redeem themselves after a heartbreaking continental exit.
