Former Kaizer Chiefs star casts doubt on Nasreddine Nabi, likens him to ex-Amakhosi mentor - 'He is like Ernst Middendorp, he's shown his true colours'

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has taken the strange narrative to cast doubt on the club's head coach Nasreddine Nabi's capabilities. 

Nabi began his journey with the Soweto giants on a positive note, guiding them to victory in three out of his first five matches across all competitions.

However, Chiefs' recent 2-2 draw against Magesi FC in a league match and 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout, piled misery on the Glamour Boys. 

Khanye, who impressed at Amakhosi during his playing days, appears to have some doubts about Nabi's coaching techniques, claiming they are reminiscent of Ernst Middendorp's approach.

"Nabi was not bad at the start even though he lost 4-0 against Young Africans in pre-season. His team did well in games such as the one against Amazulu and the win against Marumo Gallants," Khanye told iDiski Times. 

"However, recently, he has shown his true colours. He likes to play long balls just like Ernst Middendorp. 

"Mamelodi Sundowns taught him a very painful lesson. I can see that he is also very temperamental on the bench and gets too many yellow cards," he added. 

"I don’t think Chiefs will fire him, but he will not win anything for Chiefs this season. He won’t get any trophies. Top Eight finish at 

best." 

Chiefs have so far collected seven points from five matches having lost two games, won two, and shared the spoils on one occasion. 

The Naturena-based team currently occupies the eighth spot on the PSL standings. They have unfortunately missed out on an opportunity to secure a trophy after failing to make it to the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout. 

The Tunisian mentor is expected to face significant pressure when the season recommences after the Fifa international break, particularly due to his team's recent lacklustre performances.

Chiefs will play against the Golden Arrows on Saturday in the first semi-final of the inaugural Home of Legends Cup in Gqeberha. 

Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United will face each other in the second semi-final of the tournament.

Winning the mini-tournament would give Nabi's team a valuable boost in confidence as they prepare for the upcoming league matches against Richards Bay and Royal AM.
