    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City have slipped into the relegation zone after failing to register a win in their last five games. For a club of their size and ambitions, this is a worrying position. The team has struggled to maintain consistency, both defensively and in front of goal.

Off-field instability, including the expulsion of Royal AM, has added more uncertainty to the league structure. With teams now playing fewer games, every point becomes even more crucial. Former defender Thabang Rooi, who played for Mpumalanga Aces—the club that eventually became Cape Town City—has shared his concern. He believes the squad has enough talent and experience to survive the drop.

    WHAT ROOI SAID

"They are in a very bad position right now, but I promise you Cape Town City won't be relegated," says a confident Rooi as reported by Kickoff.

"They will fight in their remaining games and collect the needed points to survive. They have a good squad and it's just that they have been unfortunate in most games this season. But they can avoid relegation and they will avoid it."

"If they can win three games from the remaining matches, then they will be safe."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Cape Town City find themselves in an unexpected battle for survival. The club has undergone coaching changes, with Eric Tinkler leaving, followed by Muhsin Ertugral, who was also relieved of his duties and replaced by Diogo Peral, who is assisted by former Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa. These shifts in leadership have added instability during a crucial period. Relegation would be a major blow to their long-term ambitions and reputation. They need unity, belief, and a quick return to form.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CITY?

Cape Town City’s next three fixtures won’t be easy. They host Mamelodi Sundowns, a team looking to wrap up the league title. Then they travel to face Polokwane City, who are pushing for a top-five finish. Their final test in this tough run is against Stellenbosch FC, another side with top-five ambitions. These matches will define their season and demand maximum effort and focus.
