    WHAT HAPPENED?

When legendary Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was let go after the expiry of his contract, Fiacre Ntwari was signed from TS Galaxy as his replacement.

Bruce Bvuma is serving as the second choice while Brandon Petersen is the third choice.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The 37-year-old Khune has since ventured into business after stating he can't play for any other team apart from Amakhosi.

The Soweto Giants are struggling to keep clean sheets; they have conceded in all but one game from the seven outings across all competitions. The Nasreddine Nabi-led team has conceded 11 goals.

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes the current three custodians don't deserve to be at the club.

    WHAT KHANYE SAID

"For me, all three goalkeepers don’t deserve to be playing for Kaizer Chiefs," the 39-year-old told SNL24.

"All three of them have had their mistakes. If you ask me, Chiefs were not supposed to buy Ntwari in the first place and I don’t understand why they did. I don’t think it was the right time.

"He wasn’t that impressive at TS Galaxy and conceded some questionable goals and that is why I am surprised he was signed by Chiefs," Khanye continued.

"I think whoever identified the guy to be a signing for Chiefs got it wrong. Even at Chiefs, he has been making mistakes and it’s just that some of the errors couldn’t be easily noticed by many as the team was winning in those games earlier in the season.

" It was after the game against Sundowns where Chiefs lost by a big score that most of the people started talking about the mistakes."

    AND WHAT IS MORE

Khanye went on to opine why he feels Bvuma should be let go alongside Petersen, before boldly stating Khune should have stayed.

"Coming to Bruce Bvuma, this is another goalkeeper who has been given a chance but is failing to prove his worth," he continued.

"He has had so much time to adapt to the first team and has been given numerous chances, but he hasn’t used the opportunity. Bvuma is not a youngster anymore and he should be stamping his authority as Chiefs’ regular, but he made some schoolboy mistakes in some games when given a chance.

"Looking at Brandon Peterson and his profile and age, coming from Ajax Cape Town [now Cape Town Spurs] where he played a lot of games, he should be doing better.

“All in all, I am saying Chiefs should have extended Itumeleng Khune’s contract as a player and they wouldn’t be in this situation. If [Denis] Onyango is still playing at Sundowns at the age of 39, I believe that Khune should still be playing for Chiefs," Khanye concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

Ntwari is currently nursing an injury sustained during an international break meaning he might miss the game against Richards Bay on Wednesday.

Regardless of who starts, the team has to work harder to ensure the defensive lapses are addressed before the forthcoming fixtures.
