    WHAT HAPPENED?

Mamedi Sundowns won their opening 2025 Fifa Club World Cup match by beating Ulsan HD 1-0 and are now eyeing another set of maximum points against Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.

The Brazilians clash with the Bundesliga giants at TQL Stadium as the German side seek to recover from the 0-0 draw with Fluminense in their Group F opener.

Former Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley, who spent four seasons with Die Borussen, feels Masandawana have a chance to stun his ex-team.

    WHAT BUCKLEY SAID

“I think Sundowns can surprise Dortmund and get something out of this game," Buckley told Sowetan Live

"They need to get their facts right about Dortmund. They must be very, very physical because Dortmund are a German team and are very physical, and when they’re in possession, everything is quick.

“I think Sundowns should also play like they do in the PSL because their style of play has proven effective, so why must they change it?" the former Bafana star asked.

"They must not try to sit back, they must be fearless and play their quick passing game in tight spaces like they normally do.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Following victory over Ulsan HD, Sundowns could confirm a place in the Club World Cup Round of 16 with a group game to spare if they beat the German side.

But that would be a tall order given the gulf in the level of competitiveness between the two sides.

If the Brazilians win, it would be a significant victory which could see Sundowns fans forgive coach Miguel Cardoso for the Themba Zwane-headlined Caf Champions League near-miss.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SUNDOWNS?

Masandawana are wrapping up preparation for Saturday's game, hoping it could turn into a historic occasion by beating European giants in a big tournament.

No Sundowns player is suspended for this game, or was injured the last time out, so Cardoso has a full squad of players to choose from.

If Ka bo Yellow don't pick up any points against Dortmund they will still have one more chance to qualify for the knockout rounds when they face Brazilian outfit Fluminense in their final group game on Wednesday, June 25.
