Former Bafana Bafana midfielder is 'starting to doubt the competence of the Kaizer Chiefs coaches' after Fiacre Ntwari Carling Knockout drama

    The Ntwari incident?

Kaizer Chiefs were booted out of the Carling Knockout by Stellenbosch 5-4 on penalties after a 0-0 draw after extra time in a Round of 16 clash.

Fiacre Ntwari made a surprise start, and just before the penalty shootout, the Rwanda international refused to be substituted for Bruce Bvuma.

Former Chiefs midfielder Frank Makua has questioned the competency of Amakhosi assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil ben Youssef after Ntwari defied their call to take him out.

    Coach's decision-making queationed

"It shows that the technical staff was unsure of their decisions and lacked confidence in Ntwari," said Makua as per KickOff.
"To their surprise, he proved them wrong.  Ntwari has been playing well for his country during the qualifiers, and I’m starting to doubt the competence of the Kaizer Chiefs assistant coaches. "Their decision-making reflects a lack of certainty. As a coach, once you begin to doubt your decisions, you inevitably face problems.
"Kaizer Chiefs is a team with a large following and big players. If you start to doubt yourself and your players, success becomes difficult to achieve. Players respect a coach who is confident in all his decisions," added the former Bafana midfielder.
“Instead of trying to substitute him, they should have motivated Ntwari regarding the penalties. A goalkeeper cannot feel confident in stopping penalties if their own coach lacks faith in them."

    Decision needed from Chiefs management

Makua's remarks come as the Ntwari incident divided opinion about Kaze and Ben Youssef, as some think they should be permanent co-coaches, while others feel Chiefs need a new coach.

That leaves Amakhosi fans waiting to see the next step the club management will take regarding the current coaching situation.

With the Soweto giants taking time to conclude processing head coach Nasreddine Nabi's departure, there could be a possibility they could make a U-turn and reinstate the Tunisian.

Will Ntwari continue in goal for Chiefs?

After Ntwari's impressive performance between the sticks, it is to be seen if he will be trusted to continue as a starter ahead of Brandon Petersen.

But the incident against Stellenbosch might work against him, or the coaches might see him as having a strong character needed for regular football.
