    WHAT HAPPENED?

Brian Baloyi has advised Kaizer Chiefs, under the leadership of Nasreddine Nabi, to sign Orlando Pirates forward Zakhele Lepasa ahead of the forthcoming January transfer window if they want to improve the club's situation.

Lepasa has been out since the beginning of the 2024/25 PSL season due to an injury setback and only participated in 22 matches across all competitions last season.

The Naturena-based giants have Ranga Chivaviro, Ashley Du Preez, and Christian Saile as their strikers, but they are struggling to score goals regularly.

With the 27-year-old’s future uncertain at Pirates, Baloyi has encouraged Chiefs to secure his signature, believing he could be the answer to their scoring problems.

    WHAT BALOYI SAID

"There's a certain player (Zakhele Lepasa) at Orlando Pirates, he is not playing, tell me who's better than him at Chiefs right now?" Asked Baloyi on Metro FM's SNAWA.

"He's a Bafana Bafana player. He has been part of Hugo Broos' squad. Upfront, Chiefs need a goal-poacher.

"To be honest, It's frustrating to be a Kaizer Chiefs supporter at the moment and looking at strikers around, I'd say he could fit at Chiefs."

The man nicknamed Spiderman has also advised Amakhosi to try bringing Mamelodi Sundowns star Peter Shalulile to solve their problems.

"It looks like Shalulile is not happy at Sundowns, he is not getting game-time. One of the top strikers on the continent, not just in this league," he added.

"If Chiefs are serious. With a player like that, instead of going on and looking for a player around the continent and spending that kind of money, spend it on players you know they can deliver, especially in this league."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Lepasa was rumoured to be moving away from Pirates prior to the start of the season, but the transfer failed to materialize as it is believed that he still has a place in Jose Riveiro's plans.

Having been inactive for some time, he may find it challenging to quickly integrate into the starting eleven, as he is up against prominent strikers like Tshegofatso Mabasa and Evidence Makgopa for a position.

Shalulile, conversely, has only made 20 appearances this season, scoring four goals for the Brazilians.

    WHAT NEXT?

Shalulile renewed his contract with Sundowns last year, which is now set to last until June 2028, making it highly improbable that he will leave the club.

On the other hand, due to Lepasa’s lack of playing time, the striker is poised to be loaned out or permanently transferred from Pirates in the upcoming January transfer window.

Amakhosi’s next match is against Chippa United on December 29, while the Bucs are scheduled to face Marumo Gallants next Tuesday.
