    WHAT HAPPENED?

Wydad Casablanca beat Moghreb Tetouan 2-1 in a Botola Pro League match away at Stade Saniat Rmel on Saturday in a contest Bafana Bafana forward Cassius Mailula started.

Mohamed Rayhi grabbed a first-half brace for Wydad, including scoring from the penalty spot as their hosts scored through Mohamed Rahim.

Rayhi's second goal was created by Mailula who was then substituted in stoppage time.

It was a reprieve for Rhulani Mokwena's side which was coming from a three-match winless streak made worse by last week's 4-1 home defeat by Maghreb Fes.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Despite Wydad ending a three-match winless run, Mokwena is still not in the clear as his side struggles to compete for the Botola Pro League title.

He is at a club known for being impatient with coaches and his future remains at a big risk.

The Moroccans are looking at the bigger picture of being a highly competitive outfit at the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup.

Mailula, on the other hand, is in great form as the Bafana Bafana attacker has now provided five assists in his last five league matches.

    WYDAD MOVE UP THE STANDUNGS

After the win on Saturday, Mokwena's side did not make big strides up the table as they rose from sixth position to fifth.

The Moroccan giants have, however, 12 points fewer than log leaders RS Berkane who have a game in hand.

That makes challenging for the league title a tall order for them as they seek to return to the Caf Champions League next season.

    WHAT NEXT FOR WYDAD?

Following Saturday's result, Wydad would be looking to build up on that in their next match.

However, Mokoena will be keen to have his side start having consistent results and not blow hot and cold.
