  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs played Stellenbosch in the Carling Knockout Round of 16 on Sunday, played at the DHL Stadium in Cape Town.

The two teams played to a goalless draw in both regulation and extra time, as Steve Barker's men ended the game with 10 men following the sending off of Thapelo Mokobodi.

Amakhosi failed to capitalise on the situation, eventually losing the penalty shootout 5-4 to crash out

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

With a minute to the penalty shootout, Amakhosi's technical team wanted to make changes; one of them was to replace Rwanda international Fiacre Ntwari with Bruce Bvuma.

It was the first club game for the Amavubi international, this season, who has been deputising for Brendan Petersen.

Ntwari blatantly refused to be substituted, leaving the technical team with no option but to let him stay.

Assistant coach Cedric Kaze has since spoken out about the incident.

    WHAT KAZE SAID

"I believe in those kinds of situations, it’s something that we’re gonna handle internally," he told the media.

"[Ntwari] said that he feels confident to continue. He was comfortable going on, and for the penalty and helping the team.

"He was coming from a good intention, maybe the way he wasn’t as good as it should be, but it’s something that we will address.

"We move on, and we're going to prepare for the next games," Kaze concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

While Ntwari put up a good show for the club on the pitch, his refusal to be substituted didn't go down well with many people.

The club has no option but to act, which will also send a message to the other players about the importance of discipline in the team.
