    TELL ME MORE

Steve Barker and his side failed to find the back of the net over two legs and bowed out of the competition after losing 1-0 on aggregate against Tanzania's Simba SC on Sunday afternoon.

The second leg was played at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday afternoon and ended in a goalless draw.

Despite the result, both teams displayed moments of quality and tactical discipline. Simba SC took a more conservative approach, sitting back and absorbing pressure from the Winelands side. Stellenbosch pushed hard for a breakthrough but lacked the final touch in front of goal.

The Maroons thought they had found the winner when Genino Palace put the ball in the back of the net late in the second half.

However, VAR came to Simba’s rescue as Andre de Jongh was adjudged to have been offside in the build-up. It was a frustrating end for Barker’s men, who fought hard but ultimately fell just short.

    THE BIG LOSER

Steve Barker and his Stellenbosch side will be disappointed after failing to find the net over 180 minutes, both away and at home.

Despite showing great promise throughout the competition, they couldn’t break through when it mattered most.

Their dream of reaching a continental final ended with their semifinal exit. It’s a tough lesson for a team that had raised expectations this season.
