    WHAT HAPPENED?

Benni McCarthy's Kenya survived Chad's second-half attacks to claim a 2-1 win on Tuesday night in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Harambee Stars started the game quite well, creating several chances as the South Africa legend hoped to see his team get a win.

Emmanuel Osoro delivered in the 17th minute after a good cross from Ben Stanley Omondi, before the scorer became the provider in the 45th minute to help David Sakwa find the back of the net.

Les Sao came back the better side after the break, and needed just a quarter of an hour to get their equaliser as Ahmat Youssouf found Ali Mahamat Adam in no man's land and the attacker had an easy time beating Faruk Shikhalo in Kenya's goal post.

Despite the many attacks in the final third of the game, no team managed to get another goal as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the Harambee Stars.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

This was McCarthy's fourth game, across all competitions, as Kenya's tactician since taking over in March. Prior to Tuesday's outing, he had lost once and managed two draws.

The former Manchester United first team coach will be impressed with a couple of fringe players who showed what they can do when given a chance.

Despite playing against the minnows, McCarthy, who has insisted his team is still cooking, will be encouraged by the hunger shown, especially by the attackers.

    WHAT NEXT?

The massive test for McCarthy will be in August during the 2024 Chan that Kenya will co-host alongside Tanzania and Uganda.

The Harambee Stars faithful will want nothing but a decent outing as the nation prepares for an even bigger outing, the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
