    WHAT HAPPENED?

Gaston Sirino joined Kaizer Chiefs as a free agent in the most recent Premier Soccer League transfer window.

The 33-year-old had been a key player for Mamelodi Sundowns before parting ways after a strained relationship with the club.

At the Glamour Boys, Sirino has played nine matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

However, recently there have been allegations coming from Naturena that Sirino has not been conducting himself professionally.

There are claims that the South American is faking injuries and skips training, only to appear on the eve of matchdays.

Nevertheless, Sirino's former teammate at Chilean side Union San Felipe Jorge Acuna, who had also had a stint with Sundowns, has painted a very different picture regarding the creative attacker.

    WHAT ACUNA SAID

"Gaston Sirino is a great player and good human being; I had the pleasure of knowing him, helping him when we were teammates," the now 46-year-old Chilean, who played for Masandawana from 2007 to 2009, told SNL24.

"He is an extraordinary player and an admirable person. We don't always remember all the players we played with, especially me, but with Gaston, it is impossible not to do so.

"Gaston is unforgettable for me, thanks to football. "I had the fortune of sharing (the field) with great South American players and Gaston is undoubtedly one of them," Acuna added.

"Simply a genius on and off the field and I thank football for giving me the opportunity to share the dressing room with him.

"Send him a big hug and tell him that I always remember him with great affection and that I will never forget what he told me when he saw me. It's scaring me..."

    WHAT NEXT?

Despite allegations of misconduct, Sirino is still a vital player in coach Nasreddine Nabi's squad that is rebuilding.

He was given an initial two-year deal with an option to extend it but he will be required to remain consistent to be rewarded by the Soweto giants who have gone nine seasons without a trophy.
