Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach joins former Kaizer Chiefs mentor Arthur Zwane at AmaZulu FC as Usuthu make further technical team changes

AmaZulu have made changes to their technical team following the resignation of goalkeeper coach Aubrey Vilakazi.

He follows through the exit door Vusumuzi Vilakazi, who recently stepped down from a co-coaching arrangement with Themba Zwane.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper coach Wendell Robinson replaces Aubrey in his first job since December 2024.

"AmaZulu Football Club has accepted the resignation of goalkeeper coach Aubrey Vilakazi, who is stepping down with immediate effect due to personal reasons," said the club in a statement. 

"Vilakazi was promoted to first-team goalkeeper coach last year after previously serving with the reserve team.  The club expresses its gratitude for his dedication and contributions during his tenure and wishes him success in his future endeavors. 

"Following his departure, the club has appointed Wendell Robinson as the new goalkeeper coach," Usuthu added.

"Robinson brings extensive experience to the role, having previously worked with Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African National Team."

Usuthu are currently seventh on the Premier Soccer League table, and the current technical team updates are expected to improve them.

They have two points fewer than third-placed Stellenbosch, and that leaves them with a chance of ending the season in the top three and playing Caf Confederation Cup football next term.

The AmaZulu job is Zwane's chance of proving he can be a coach who achieves something following his difficult spell at Kaizer Chiefs.

Usuthu's next assignment is the hosting of fourth-placed TS Galaxy on Friday.

They face a team that has two points more than them and have a chance to climb up the table if they collect maximum points.
