    Less pressure at Pirates

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Thuso Phala has said Bafana Bafana forward Oswin Appollis would have faced more pressure had he joined Amakhosi.

Phala believes that Appollis would have been a regular starter at Chiefs rather than at Orlando Pirates, meaning he would have faced more pressure to deliver results.

    'Good move'

"Me, personally, I would have loved to see him at Chiefs, but at Pirates with the players they have, they complement him better. At Chiefs, the pressure was going to be on him to get us the results," Phala said on the Omniaudioafrica YouTube Channel.

"I don't think he has that much pressure at Pirates than he was going to have at Chiefs. So, it was a good move for him with the pressure side, but on the playing side, at Chiefs, obviously, he was going to be a starter. He deserves to start; he's our national team player," he added.

"He's one of the best wingers. I still don't understand how they (Chiefs) didn't get to sign him... You know, politics. Sometimes fans say Chiefs don't want to buy, but when a player is wanted by Chiefs, it's R10 million. But he signs for Pirates; it's R3 million. When it's Chiefs, these teams demand more."

    How Pirates snapped Appollis

Before he left Polokwane City, the Bafana forward had been linked with both Soweto giants, but he ended up signing for the Sea Robbers.

The winger was also linked with Premier Soccer League defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

    Ouaddou's headache

Although the signing of Appollis added more depth to the Bucs' squad, it presented head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou with a selection headache.

Already, Pirates had Relebohile Mofokeng as an established left winger, and when the season began, Ouaddou deployed Appollis in the left wing with 'President Yama 2000' operating from the right wing.

But the tactician has moved away from that system, and Mofokeng has been restored to the left wing in recent games. Consequently, Appollis has been coming in as a substitute.
