    Vilakazi on the rise

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye believes Vilakazi does not yet have the capacity to be a player whom the Soweto giants can heavily rely on to influence matches single-handedly.
The teenager is on the rise, pushing to establish himself as a regular starter for Chiefs.
However, he has yet to score or provide an assist in the five appearances he has made for Amakhosi this season, and Khanye says he is being played out of position.

    'Vilakazi is not like Mofokeng'

“I don’t think that boy is a winger, and people need to understand that Mfundo can’t carry Chiefs now,” said Khanye as per

    iDiski Times.

“Yes, he can’t, Chiefs is a big team. Yes he’s got the talent and I always say he can’t carry Chiefs now, not now.  “The U20 team is a different environment. All I’m saying is that the coach is playing Mfundo in a wrong position, he should be number 10, Mdu [Shabalala] should be on the wing probably or even [Wandile] Duba or even [Glody] Lilepo," added the former Amajita star.
“But even at number 10 he cannot carry Chiefs. Lindo [Pep] mentioned something very important last month that in big teams in South Africa number 10s are senior players or internationals like [Lucas] Ribeiro and [Gaston] Sirino because you need a matured player, a big-hearted player.
“There are young players like Rele [Relebohile Mofokeng] but Mfundo is not the same type of player as Rele. He does have talent but he can’t carry Chiefs.”

Chiefs pressed to follow their rivals

Chiefs are yet to produce players with massive influence in the manner their rivals, Orlando Pirates, had Relebohile Mofokeng and Mohau Nkota being vital for the team last season.
That has extended to how the Buccaneers cannot do without 20-year-old central defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi who is also the team vice captain.
There was a time when Thapelo Maseko used to be very influential at Mamelodi Sundowns, which earned him a Bafana Bafana spot at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

    What comes next?

Vilakazi is not only attempting to become an important player for Chiefs when they play their domestic matches.
Should he be selected to play, he has an opportunity to make a big difference when Amakhosi host AS Simba in a must-win CAF Confederation Cup game on Sunday.
