    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The move to join Cape Town City, who were relegated after failing to keep their PSL status through playoffs, comes after Ngcobo had been linked with Chippa United.

The experienced defender had reportedly been spotted training with Chilli Boys, and rumours were that he could seal a deal with the club.

The 31-year-old had also been linked with Durban City, a move that would have allowed him to stay in the PSL, but now it is not going to happen after joining the Citizens.

Roadblock, as Ngcobo is famously known in football circles, was named the Defender of the Season for 2020/21 before he sealed a move to Amakhosi.

He joined Sekhukhune United as a free agent in July 2024 and was among the players released before the 2025/26 season began.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NGCOBO?

After things did not quite really work for him at Babina Noko, it is time to prove himself in a new environment.

His experience could come in handy for City, who are plotting to win the National First Division and make a return to the top flight.

City have also signed former Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Sifiso Ngobeni and ex-Dutch Eredivisie stars Simon van Duivenbooden and Mickey van der Hart.
