    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Lucas Radebe has revealed what he thinks is making Bafana Bafana a promising team under Hugo Broos.

Looking back at how Bafana have performed under Broos in the past, Radebe said the future of the national team is promising, especially because of consistency and confidence from players.

    WHAT RADEBE SAID

“I think I have seen over the past games how consistency has played a role [for Bafana success] not just in playing and winning games, but I think in bringing the team together, we’re all familiar with the names being announced, which is great,” Radebe said, as per iDiski Times.

“I think it’s a big step for us, and it builds up on the field of play with performances. We compete, and it shows, as well. We have not lost in more than 15 games, which is great for us; it shows we have a positive way forward.

“The people at the helm are doing a great job, and the players are really committed to the cause for the national team," he added.

    WHAT IS MORE

The former Leeds United defender added that there is confidence from the playing unit, which only means Bafana is headed in the right direction.

"I think with the manager we have and support from the organisation plays an important role for the team to do well, not only on the field of play but behind the scenes, organisation,” he said.

“I believe that we’ll get somewhere. There are great signs with the players, confidence in how they play, and they want to win something. We’re heading in the right direction," Radebe concluded.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Bafana are on the verge of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals, given that they top Group C with a five-point gap.

South Africa were also winners in the qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, boosting their chances of returning to the global showpiece for the first time since 2010, when they hosted.

Bafana will also compete in the 2025 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco. The tournament will begin in December 2024 and end in January 2026.

With the stability and performance witnessed under Broos so far, there is confidence that the Cosafa nation will not be mere participants in Morocco but will go toe-to-toe with other high-ranking rivals.
