    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs recently signed Siphesihle Ndlovu as they attempt to build a strong squad to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and their Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in domestic football.

However, while appreciating Ndlovu as a good player, former Amakhosi youth coach Farouk Khan has questions around the midfielder.

    WHAT KHAN SAID

“Well, he’s technically not bad, and when getting forward, his passing range is good. On the odd occasion, he can score a goal or two as well,” Khan said as per FARPost.

“However, the challenge he will face is how he will be complemented by the other players, such as Gaston Sirino and Thabo Cele. Will they be able to achieve this in the shortest period of time? As you know, when you are constantly building teams from season to season, you will never have a situation where the team is stable enough.

“I think all great teams, firstly, have a very good leader in the midfield. I don’t know his leadership qualities, and I haven’t seen much of it because, at Orlando Pirates, he wasn’t the leader. There were players much bigger than him," added the former Amakhosi development coach.

“At SuperSport, he made his mark under Gavin Hunt. But again, I don’t think he was the leader in that midfield. However, in saying that, it’s just about the chemistry between the rest of the midfield and, obviously, the attackers and defenders that will guarantee that he has a successful season.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Coach Nasreddine Nasbi is under pressure to sign players who will make an impact in his team for this upcoming season.

He has settled for Ndlovu who is an Orlando Pirates discard who spent more time on the bench than he did on the pitch during his four seasons with the Buccaneers.

But the player managed to revamp himself at SuperSport United where he started on loan before a permanent move that lasted two seasons.

    WHAT NEXT FOR NDLOVU?

Stiff competition awaits Ndlovu in the Chiefs midfield where he has to compete against the likes of Pule Mmodi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Gaston Sirino.

But with some of Amakhosi midfielders struggling for consistency last season, Ndlovu might fancy impressing Nabi with solid performances week in, week out.
