    WHAT HAPPENED?

Former Moroka Swallows defender Peter Petersen has opened up on a hilarious muti story about Gavin Hunt.

Petersen played under the experienced coach who was Maswaiswai's coach between 2002 and 2007.

    WHAT PETERSEN SAID

"You know, Gavin Hunt is an emotional person,” Petersen told KickOff.

“He’s a different Gavin now compared to how he was during our time [laughs]. When he was coaching Swallows, we had a match against Black Leopards in Thohoyandou. And every time we travelled to Thohoyandou, our main muti man who doubled as a technical staff member would say things like, 'Hey, these Venda people have some strong stuff' [laughs].

"He would go on about it for a week or so, asking if we were ready or scared of them. So he went to find some strong muti for us," added the former Bafana Bafana man.

"So on game day in the changing room, our muti man started doing his rituals. We played the game, but unfortunately, we ended up losing.

"It was the manner of our loss that drove Gavin Hunt to madness. After the match, the inyanga's muti had remained in the changing room while we played.

"Suddenly, Gavin stormed in and kicked the inyanga’s bag full of muti, exclaiming, 'This stuff isn't working! It's not helping us!' [laughs]," he continued.

"And that was the biggest mistake. Our main muti guy, who was part of the technical staff and had organised the muti, immediately resigned in tears. He truly never came to training after that. It took a lot of convincing for him to return."

"People told him, 'You are a big part of the club and everything,'" Petersen went on.

"When he finally came back, I think he was still angry. He kept saying, 'This white guy doesn't respect my stuff, he doesn't know anything about the history of Swallows!'

"But we managed to calm him down. We all gathered around to welcome him back, saying, 'Hey man, we missed you a lot,' and Gavin eventually apologized to him."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Hunt is now at SuperSport where he is trying to make his team compete against much-fancied opponents Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates in the Premier Soccer League title race.

It is a tough task for Hunt as his team is currently seventh on the PSL table with 13 points less than log leaders Orlando Pirates.

That is a huge test for Matsatsantsa to see if they catch up with the leading pack as the season progresses.
