    WHAT HAPPENED?

On Wednesday, February 5, Richard Ofori was in goal as AmaZulu played their hosts Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League fixture.

The custodian made two mistakes that cost his team a win, as the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ofori could have done better to stop the first cross by Chiefs that led to an own goal. However, the worst of it all was turning Glody Lilepo's ball into his own net when Usuthu was in the driving seat.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

On Friday, AmaZulu bounced back to beat Marumo Gallants 2-0 which put them inside the top eight.

Ofori was convincing in that game and pulled some fantastic saves to ensure he kept a clean sheet.

Interestingly, the former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper has kept four clean sheets from the 12 league games played.

It explains why Arthur Zwane was quick to defend him despite the blunders against Chiefs.

    WHAT ZWANE SAID

"You know Richard, has been one of our best players ever since we came on board, myself and coach Kanu," he stated.

"He kept us in the game on many occasions, he's been outstanding therefore we cannot crucify him or destroy him when he's only made two mistakes or three mistakes.

“Football is a game of mistakes. He has played a very huge role, his presence, you know when he's there you are covered in many ways. He's a big boy, he's an international player. He knows why he is here and moreover, he's one person that is very focused. Spiritually also he’s very powerful. So, I know people who are spiritual don't succumb to any pressure," he added.

“They can make mistakes because it's the nature of football for us to make mistakes even as coaches and players as well but it's always how you come back after a setback."

    WHAT NEXT?

Usuthu have a massive chance to finish this season inside the top eight and qualify for the MTN8.

However, Ofori and his teammates must deliver consistently in the PSL and avoid some unnecessary mistakes.
