    WHAT HAPPENED?

    Former South Africa goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo made a name for himslef at Kaizer Chiefs where he played from 2012 to 2018.

    The now 34-year-old left for Orlando Pirates who had hoped to benefit from his experience.

    The Sea Robbers were keen on strengthening their goalkeeping department but things did not go as planned.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

    Pirates were not aware that Khuzwayo had a niggling ankle injury that was troubling him.

    He had hopped to heal while with the Sea Robbers, explaining why the chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza went as far as he could to get him fit.

    Khuzwayo further revealed his trips to Mozambique and Swaziland alongside Happy Jele in search of a lasting solution but it didn't work.

    WHAT KHUZWAYO SAID

    "I think at Pirates, Dr. Irvin Khoza did everything. I don't think there is a place in South Africa I didn't go [or do] anything that will make my ankle feel better," he told SoccerBeat

    "We did everything with Dr. Irvin; traveling to Mpumalanga, and traveling to Venda to get people who will try to sort out. A lot of Inyanga that I went to.

    "They would say, 'I'm gonna do this, do this, do this, and your ankle will be fine. We tried everything. I remember going to Mozambique, Swaziland at night with Happy Jele trying to fix the ankle. We did everything," Khuzwayo concluded.

    WHAT NEXT?

    Khuzwayo was forced to retire early, at 29, owing to his recurring injuries.

    He ended up not making a league appearance for the Buccaneers despite spending a season with them.
