    WHAT HAPPENED?

PSL YET TO CONFIRM DURBAN CITY'S PROMOTION

However, Durban City's celebrations of promotion to the top-flight league could be short-lived.

This is after they allegedly fielded an improperly registered player for a number of games, leading to the club being reported to the PSL.

  • Simo Dladla, Durban City

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

The KwaZulu-Natal side fielded former Golden Arrows midfielder Saziso Magawana, who was said to have been ineligible to play in all the games he was involved in.

Magawana featured in 28 games and the PSL would look at the number of matches he played in determining the case against City.

Durban City could face the same fate that affected Mbombela United in 2020 when they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player, Sabelo Ndzinisa and were docked 23 points.

That would see Simo Dladla's City being relegated after initially topping the NFD table.

    WHAT NEXT?

The matter is now before the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber after Cape Town Spurs lodged a complaint.

The upcoming weeks will see what the PSL DRC will decide and should Durban City lose the matter, NFD runners-up Orbit College will gain promotion while Spurs will survive the chop.
