    WHAT HAPPENED?

With Premier Soccer League clubs allowed to reinforce their squads in the current transfer window, Stellenbosch FC have swiftly moved to secure the signature of Kaizer Chiefs academy product Thato Khiba from TS Galaxy.

Last week, this publication reported that the 28-year-old midfielder was nearing signing a contract with Stellies as they view him as a replacement for Mamelodi Sundowns-bound Jayden Adams.

GOAL can confirm that Khiba has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with a two-year option with Stellenbosch.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Stellenbosch beat Orlando Pirates in the race for Khiba's signature as the Buccaneers were also looking to sign him to boost Jose Riveiro's midfield options.

Khiba's transfer to Stellenbosch is seen as a significant advancement in his career, especially given that Stellies are also participating in the Caf Confederation Cup.

The former Marumo Gallants star, who was converted from right-back to midfielder by coach Sead Ramovic at Galaxy, will fill the void left by Jayden Adams at Stellies as the Bafana Bafana star is set to join Sundowns.

    WHAT NEXT?

Khiba is anticipated to be officially announced by Stellenbosch soon as he follows in the footsteps of his former Galaxy teammate Lehlohonolo Mojela.

The diminutive player could make his debut when Stellies face off with AmaZulu in a PSL game on January 23.
