    WHAT HAPPENED?

Cape Town City interim coach Muhsin Ertugral has revealed that former Bafana Bafana star Thulani Serero has joined the club and may be available for selection soon.

The 34-year-old midfielder was reportedly in advanced negotiations with the John Comitis-owned club in anticipation of finalizing a move to the Citizens.

After several weeks of training with the team, Serero appears to have officially joined the team, as Ertugral disclosed that the player could make his debut for City soon.

    WHAT ERTUGRAL SAID

"He went back to Emirates, quickly to sort out some issues. But yeah, he is a solution for us, definitely, but not against Orlando Pirates," Ertugral told reporters.

"He needs to get his family sorted out, bring them back, and then probably, he is going back to Emirates and come back on the weekend, and then obviously the next game against AmaZulu, probably he will be ready."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Serero played for clubs in the Netherlands including Ajax Amsterdam and Vitesse Arnhem after departing South Africa in 2011 following his impressive stay with Ajax Cape Town (now known as Cape Town Spurs).

The Bafana Bafana legend also turned for United Arab Emirates teams such as Al-Jazira Club and Khor Fakkan Club, who participate in the UAE Pro League.

Cream, as the ageless player is nicknamed, will be striving to assist Ertugral’s side in enhancing their underwhelming performances and improving their position in the PSL table.

The Cape Town-based team, which dismissed coach Eric Tinkler after a poor start to the season, is presently 10th in the standings, having garnered 21 points from 18 matches played so far.

    WHAT NEXT FOR SERERO?

Considering his abundant experience and undoubted skills, Serero's addition to the CT City squad could provide a boost to Ertugral’s team amid their difficulties.

The midfield star will be absent from City’s upcoming league match against Orlando Pirates at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, February 22.

But hopefully, local crowds will be able to watch him live and in-person on PSL pitches soon.
