    WHAT HAPPENED?

Kaizer Chiefs forward Ranga Chivaviro is in the final months of his contract which expires in June 2025.

The 32-year-old joined the Soweto giants in July 2023 on a two-year deal and the club has an option to extend his contract by a further season.

But with the striker having managed just three goals in nine appearances across all competitions for Chiefs this season, former Amakhosi forward Collins Mbesums talks about what Chivaviro needs to do to earn himself a new deal.

    WHAT MBESUMA SAID

“Well, that [contract extension] will go down to the coaches and the club’s management; at least he has a clause for an extension,” Mbesuma told FARPost.

“But at the end of the day, it’s up to him [Chivaviro] and what he brings to the club; he has to score goals and help the club achieve its goals.

“To be honest, what can save him and earn him that extension is only performing well. By that, it’s scoring goals because he’s a striker, and that’s his only job on the field, to score.”

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Chivaviro was a regular starter when the season began but he has been coming on from the bench in Amakhosi's last two games.

He would be keen on making the line-up again and enjoy more game time which presents opportunities to score more goals.

That would increase his chances of being retained by the club when his contract expires.

    WHAT NEXT FOR CHIVAVIRO?

Amakhosi are in the market for a new striker and signing one is the club's top priority in January as stated by coach Nasreddine Nabi.

The coming in of a new forward, especially if he turns out to be a prolific scorer, might spell doom for Chivaviro.
