    WHAT HAPPENED?

Orlando Pirates opted against renewing the contract of Thabiso Mashiane who then joined Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the current season.

This was after the right-back spent the better part of last term on the sidelines injured.

But he appears to have reinvented himself at Amakhosi with some impressive performances which have seen him being tipped to return to the Bafana Bafana fold.

    WHAT MASILELA SAID

"He has not put a foot wrong. He could have easily been Man of the Match [against Richards Bay]. I'm happy for him, he has settled very well. It seems like the fans love him," Masilela said on Soccerbeat.

"And when you're given such chances - you get to play for Pirates and move to Chiefs - it doesn't happen often. I'm glad he's grabbing the opportunity with both hands. I pray he stays injury-free, we might see a good season from him.

"A loss for Pirates is a gain for Kaizer Chiefs, I wonder what they are feeling, the management of Pirates, seeing the boy shining like this at Chiefs, their rivals, not just at any team."

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

After Monyane left Pirates, Abdeslam Ouaddou still has three right-backs in his side but is yet to settle for one who would be his regular.

In the MTN8 quarter-final clash with Polokwane City, the coach started Bandile Shandu who played the whole game.

But Shandu was then dropped for Tshepo Mashiloane who was in the line-up when the Buccaneers lost their Premier Soccer League assignments against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants.

As the Moroccan trainer sought for answers in his defence against Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, Deano van Rooyen started for the first time this season.
